Jeanrond and Lande Concept of God in Gloabal Dialog

McCall Concept of God Review:

I found the most intriguing and intellectually engaging/extending chapters to be numbers 2 and 4. Pointedly, I found much value in digesting the “goals” of Interreligious dialogue. I did not quite agree with all the stipulated goals, though they were food for thought. Indeed, I did not like the goal of reciprocal representation of the distinct ideas, but did enjoy the elaboration of the goal of mutual understanding (note that I think that reciprocal representation will devolve into syncretism, but that mere understanding can avoid said syncretism). I did not find the 3rd explicated goal of Interaction to be sound theologically, from my Judeo-Christian standpoint, because it expects both theological dialogue and prayer dialogue, which are incongruent with each other when one combines different religions that possess different goals, and/or have different methodologies to gain access to the Divine (however one may want to define Divine, note). I especially enjoyed the entirety (nearly!) of chapter 4, as it was illuminating to my mind. Indeed, the dialogue of religions based upon the three categorizations of relations, awareness, and energy is promising for future exploration, I deem it to be true. I found the distinctions of the religions of the “eye” and the religions of the “ear” to be informative, and challenging at the same time, as it opened up to me heretofore unrealized ways in which to integrate the emphases of the various religions spoken of into a congruent “whole”.
